Decide whether you need a skills matrix or a course library
Some of these tools are built around tracking who is qualified to run which machine (AG5, Kahuna Workforce Solutions); others are built around delivering and completing courses (Litmos, Absorb LMS, Docebo). A skills matrix tool will frustrate you if what you actually need is a stack of pre-built safety modules, and a course-library LMS will leave you building a certification matrix by hand in a spreadsheet. Decide which problem you're solving before you take a demo call, because vendors will happily demo the feature you didn't ask about.
Decide whether GxP validation is a requirement, not a nice-to-have
If you operate under FDA or EMA oversight, UL Solutions ComplianceWire is built for validated GxP training records and 21 CFR Part 11, and MasterControl ties training to controlled SOPs and quality events inside its eQMS. If you don't need that level of validation, both of those add cost and process overhead you don't need to carry. General manufacturing plants without regulatory audits should look further down this list.
Decide how workers access training on the floor
Axonify and Mitti are built around short, mobile-first microlearning for deskless shift workers; Absorb LMS specifically supports offline mobile learning, which matters if your plant floor has dead wifi zones. QAD Redzone pairs training with operator tablets and shift huddle boards rather than a standalone course catalog. If your operators don't sit at a desk, a browser-based LMS built for HR departments is the wrong shape regardless of its course content.
Work out who administers this day to day
A connected-worker platform like Poka or a skills-and-compliance tool like Kahuna assumes a plant-side administrator who updates the matrix as people cross-train. A general LMS like Docebo or Litmos assumes an L&D team pushing content company-wide. If nobody on your plant floor has time to own a skills matrix, buying one anyway means it goes stale within a quarter.
TODO(editor): verify how many of these 15 vendors publish integration details with plant ERP or MES systems before claiming a count.
Check what it costs beyond the license
Only two vendors on this page publish a price: Mitti at $24/seat/mo (with a free plan) and 360Learning at $8/user/mo. MasterControl publishes a starting figure of roughly $25,000/yr, which signals an implementation-heavy sale rather than a self-serve subscription. The other twelve list "quote," which usually means the price scales with seat count, module selection, or validation services, none of which show up until a sales call.
TODO(editor): confirm which of the quote-only vendors require a minimum seat count or annual contract before publishing a claim about contract length.
Match target company size to your plant
Poka, Axonify, Kahuna, UL Solutions ComplianceWire, Octave Reliance and Docebo are listed as targeting enterprise buyers; MasterControl and QAD Redzone target mid-size companies. If you run a single 40-person plant, an enterprise-targeted platform may come with a sales process and pricing structure built for multi-site rollouts you don't need yet.
TODO(editor): verify deployment options (cloud-only vs. on-prem) for each vendor before stating any vendor lacks an on-prem build, since the listings only confirm cloud deployment for most entries.
Decide if compliance recordkeeping needs to survive an audit
If an auditor will ask to see signed-off training records tied to a specific SOP revision, a general LMS with a course library is not enough by itself; you need the tie between training completion and the controlled document, which is what MasterControl and Octave Reliance are built to provide. If your audits are informal or internal only, that structure is overhead you're paying for and not using.
